Impact

The use of enzymes in the leather production industry have helped to reduce emissions as well as impact on the environment. The use of sodium sulphide and lime can be greatly reduced and hair can even be salvaged as a result of enzymes. However, the leather industry is still a large producer of emissions and enzymes only help to diminish this fact.  The leather created with the use of enzymes turns out with better qualities and certain portions of the process are unable to proceed without the use of enzymes. Allowing enzymes to be used decreases the toxins in the environment of workers and thus providing them with a safer work area.

Below is the leather production process with pathways for the use of enzymes as alternatives to chemicals and unsafe products.
